What is Trackman?
Trackman is a radar-based system that tracks ball flight and club movement, used by top players worldwide. At Screen Golf, we use Trackman iO – the latest version designed for indoor simulators.
Ball Parameters
Ball Speed
Speed of the ball immediately after impact. The most important factor affecting distance.
Typical (driver): Amateur: 125-150 mph | Good player: 150-170 mph | Pro: 170-190+ mph
Launch Angle
The angle at which the ball leaves the clubhead. Too low = won't climb. Too high = flies high but short.
Optimal: Driver: 10-14° | 7-Iron: 16-20° | Wedge: 24-32°
Spin Rate
Revolutions per minute (RPM). Backspin keeps the ball airborne and stops it on the green.
Typical: Driver: 2000-3000 RPM | 7-Iron: 6000-7500 RPM | Wedge: 8000-11000 RPM
Carry & Total Distance
Carry – air distance to first ground contact. Total – carry + roll after landing.
Club Parameters
Club Speed
Clubhead speed at impact. Faster club = faster ball = more distance.
Typical (driver): Amateur: 80-95 mph | Good player: 95-110 mph | Pro: 110-125+ mph
Attack Angle
Whether club is moving up (+) or down (-) at impact.
Optimal: Driver: +2° to +5° | 7-Iron: -4° to -6° | Wedge: -4° to -8°
Club Path & Face Angle
Club Path – swing direction (in-to-out = draw, out-to-in = fade/slice). Face Angle – where the face points (open = right, closed = left).
Smash Factor
Ratio of ball speed to club speed. Shows energy transfer efficiency.
Ideal: Driver: 1.48-1.50 | 7-Iron: 1.33-1.36
Lower = hitting off the sweet spot.
How to Use the Data
Slicing? Check face angle and club path – likely open face and/or out-to-in path.
Lack of distance? Check smash factor. Low = contact issue.
Flying too high and short? Too much spin or too high launch angle.
Inconsistent distances? Compare several shots – swing consistency issue.
